RoboCupJunior Soccer Sim Demo 2022 Results

Hello everyone,

After a long pause, we’ll use this thread to announce the results of the RoboCupJunior Soccer Sim Demo 2022 competition!

Today’s release include the Group Phase, in which the teams have been split into 4 groups of 6 to 7 teams. These groups then played “tournament” in a round-robin style (everyone against everyone). In each group, the top two teams the “qualified” to the next round, the results of which we’ll release in the next few days.

We encourage you to take a closer look at the matches themselves. The new version of Webots we are using provides an improved HTML player, which does not only render the labels (which were missing last time) but also provides some more advanced controls, such as setting the speed of the video.

Check out the results on the link below and should you have any feedback, please do not hesitate to let us know by posting here on the forum!

Have fun!

Hello everyone,

Finally, we are here with the ultimate results of the Finals!

I guess I should explain what is going on in the “First place” group.

What happened was rather peculiar: the two teams (Reset and Speshari) seem to be on a very similar level strategy-wise and their standard game time ended up in a draw. Hence, we played one more extension but that ended up in a draw as well… It was only the second extension in which Speshari managed to score one more goal, making them the ultimate champions of the RoboCupJunior SoccerSim Demo 2022 competition.

These sort of matches make for some very exciting gameplay, so we definitely encourage you to take a closer look – the “3rd place” matches are really good as well:

Finally, let me thank all of you who participated in the SoccerSim Demo 2022 Demo competition. By seeing so many matches being simulated, we’ve been able to identify a number of issues, like “robots spawning upside down” or the TIME_STEP of the world being different from that of the robots. We will try our best to resolve these, so that you can rest assured that these known bugs have been resolved.

That said, there are certainly things which might not have worked all that well but we simply haven’t noticed them. If you can think of any, please let us know by responding to this thread or by adding an issue at Issues · RoboCupJuniorTC/rcj-soccer-sim · GitHub.

Similarly to last year, we are planning to hold a RCJ SoccerSim Challenge along with RoboCup 2022 in Bangkok, Thailand. Stay tuned for more info – it should be coming soon.

Thanks a bunch everyone!
