I was really interested in the new ‘technical challenges’ so I started wondering if the challenges would give additional points towards the teams that has accomplished it and I’m also unsure about when the technical challenges will take place in the competition.

Although this is not explicitly mentioned in the rules, the idea indeed is to award bonus points for successful completion of these challenges. I am not at liberty to discuss this in further details, but the OC will certainly announce the details well ahead of the competition.
Once again, I cannot really discuss this at this time, but it will be announced well ahead of the international event in Canada.
