Rule changes for 2026 - change in robot size?

Hey everyone, with the German Open being over and the introduction of the new 42mm orange IR ball for 2v2 Lightweight next year, I was wondering about rule changes regarding the robot size, considering they‘re using basically the same size ball as the Open league. Is a change to a smaller size from the 22cm to 18cm or similar possible or even probable?

We have no plans to use the small ball for 1v1 because dribblers for it are harder to make, especially with Lego.

I wasn‘t talking about 1v1, sorry if that wasn‘t clear. I was talking about 2v2 Lightweight, and if that change comes with a change in the robots maximum diameter.

Anything? I didn’t mean 1v1, I meant 2v2 lightweight.

Sorry about that, for some reason your post got held up for review by the system. I cannot speak for RoboCup German Open but I expect they will be running the 2026 rules in 2026 because that’s what they always do when they are available soon enough (and we are going to make sure we will publish at least a close-to-final draft soon enough).

Totally agree! Thank you for clarification!

Ok, thanks. I hope those rules are gonna be out soon. Before that we can’t really start constructing the new bot.

New rules usually get finalised after the International Tournament because that’s when we’ve seen all the things that have changed at the various levels. Then we start putting ideas for changes to the forum and start getting feedback and adjusting everything to fit together. We are always open for ideas and feedback but we could always do more to try and get feedback from everyone during the season.
