RCJE Vienna SuperRegional Questions

Hello everybody,

there have been a couple questions about the upcoming RCJE Vienna tournament on the RoboCupJunior Discord (join here if you’re not yet on it).

  1. What documentation will Rescue Line teams have to submit?
  2. Will a Rescue Simulation (Erebus simulator) competition be held this year?
  3. Will both 1v1 Soccer leagues be held?
  4. Will there be age limits to both 1v1 leagues?

Cheers
David

  1. We’ll get an answer from the Rescue committee next week
  2. Unfortunately it will not be.
  3. Yes, both 1v1 leagues will be held.
  4. Yes, the age limits will be as specified on the official website
  1. We followed up but didn’t get an answer yet.

We also received another question:
5. Will the communications modules be used for Soccer games?

to which the answer is:
5. Yes, the comms modules will be used for 2vs2 games in Vienna, modules will be provided to teams on site.

  1. TDP and Poster (both as PDF files) are required to be uploaded by May 13th. An upload link will be provided by end of April. Details will be posted to the official website (see link above)

My teams and I were very surprised that the organisers in Vienna did not consider holding the Rescue Simulation event. Usually, we had one slot for the World Championships and one for the European Championships each year. I hope the organisers will reconsider, or at least that the European competition will always be held in the coming years. We mentors need certainty; otherwise, it is difficult to plan competitive activities. It is a real shame not to be able to take part in the 2026 European Championships.

We’ve had another couple questions come in via Discord:

  1. Will Teams of 5 members be permitted for the Soccer Leagues?
  2. What happens to a Soccer Entry team where one of the members turns 17 between qualifying and the start of the Vienna tournament? Does the team go without that member, does the team not qualify in the first place? Do they get a pass because they were a legal team member when they qualified?
  3. What rule set will be used for Rescue (esp. Rescue Maze)? Will there be an update to the 2026 rules (last published yesterday here: https://junior.robocup.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/RCJRescueLineEntry2026-draft1.pdf).

I have passed those on via Email and will keep this thread and the Discord posted with any answers I receive.

  1. (which probably should have been 6 because it happened a little bit ago but I’m posting it here now): What documentation needs to be provided and how does it get sent in?

The answer to 9. is that the deadline for submitting TDP and Poster (both in PDF format) for at least the Rescue League (I’m following up to clarify if this is also valid for Soccer and OnStage - but I assume it is) is May 13th via an upload link that will be provided by the tournament organizers.

Sorry but at this link: RoboCupJunior Leagues | FH Technikum Wien they write that the deadline is May 20, 2026!

“Upload from both TDP (Technical Description Paper) and Poster must be in PDF-format; Deadline is May 20, 2026; Upload link will be available by first week of May.”

End of the page!

I am confused…

You are correct, it does say that (now). I think they moved the deadline, the page also used to say the upload link would become available at the end of April. I will let you know when I get a response about what the exact modalities are.

  1. How will TDP- and Poster-Points count towards the overall scores/rankings (for the respective leagues)?

We have some more answers:

  1. Only 4 members per team can be registered for the Soccer league.
  2. Only team members that meet the age requirements can be officially registered for the RCJE tournament as team members.
  3. The rules that have been posted on the competition website for a while will be the ones that get used, new (pre-)releases nonwithstanding.
  4. Documentation requirements and upload links are now available on the official website here
  5. The same link that also contains the upload information also contains scoring information.

Today I read from the official site:

Rescue: Documentation Requirements

  1. Technical Description Paper (TDP), PDF-Format
    Template
    – Naming: TDP_Teamname.pdf
  2. Poster (no larger than A1 size), PDF-Format
    – Naming: Poster_Teamname.pdf
  3. Technical Description Video: not required
  4. Bill of Materials (BOM): not required
  5. Source Code: not required

No Requirements for Entry Teams!

Line Upload (Deadline: Wednesday, 20.5.2026, 23:59 CET)

Maze Upload (Deadline: Wednesday, 20.5.2026, 23:59 CET)

Scoring Calculation: (NORMALIZED RUBRICS SCORE) = 0.6 x (TDP SCORE) / (BEST TDP SCORE)

  • 0.2 x (POSTER SCORE) / (BEST POSTER SCORE + 0.2 x 1.0

So, my team will play the Rescue Maze Entry: we do not need to send and prepare anything? No TDP no Poster?

Moreover: few days ago my Soccer Entry 1:1 Standard League team prepared TDP and Poster. Now they write that only Poster is required… I am confused…

That is correct. I haven’t saved all the previous versions of this page so I can’t tell you if this is a change or not but they don’t require it for Entry teams.

I apologize if I have caused confusion there, I did not specify league when asking what documentation was required and received one answer as opposed to one answer per league - that answer was that TDPs and Posters would be needed. In any case I’d rather have a team prepare something they didn’t know they don’t need than have a team not prepare something they didn’t know that they do need. If nothing else it was hopefully was at least a good exercise in writing systematically about their project.

So, in the end, it turns out that:

Team Rescue Maze Entry: no documentation required.
I gather that we do not need to print the poster and therefore it will not need to be submitted when the team is registered. The final score will therefore be based SOLELY on the competition score.

Team Soccer Entry Standard Kit: only the poster is required. It must be uploaded via the link provided by 20 May. The format must not exceed A1 size. It is unclear whether we will need to submit a hard copy of the poster; the description does not provide a clear answer.
‘Poster (no larger than A1 size), PDF format’

I hope I have understood the instructions correctly; fingers crossed.
Thank you.
