LED for Identifying Victims

Although rule 4.3.11 states:

  1. The robot must be equipped with one specific LED or display that is dedicated only for identifying victims. The LED or display must be clearly visible to the referee.

The robot we’re working on in my team used two LED strips to illuminate two different cameras, one on the left and another on the right. We would like to use those same led strips for victim identification. Is this possible?

Best regards,

Juan Torres - RC Polaris.

Hi @juan.torresf!

The robot must have a LED specifically for victim identification that the robot uses only for victim identification. Therefore, unfortunately, the LEDs used for camera illumination cannot be used for this purpose.

Thank you for answering. I was talking about it with my team and we wondered if the LED for victims identification can also be used for another purpose when the robot is not in the round. For example, during LOP or calibration. Only an indicator for us, but in the round it will only be used for victims identification.

Best regards,

Hi @juan.torresf!

During calibration, we allow the teams to use the specific LED or display for anything.

However, once the scoring run begins, we only want to see the LED or display light up when the robot actually identifies a victim. Therefore, since the LoP occurs during the scoring run, please do not use this LED or display during the LoP.

This is a minimal change for the teams, but it makes the referees’ job much easier and more consistent. I hope you understand our decision!
