Guidance Needed on Using Concepts from Other Teams

Hello,
I’m looking for some guidance on how we can use ideas from other teams in our work. I’m currently working on a solution to detect and handle intersections on a line. Despite trying several approaches, I haven’t had much success so far.

During my research, I stumbled upon a public documen from a team that participated a few years ago. They presented an excellent concept (without any source code) for dealing with this challenge, and it seems like it could address many of the issues I’m facing.

Here’s where I need your advice: I’m not sure if it’s okay to incorporate parts of their concept into my project. On one hand, I want to avoid simply copying ideas from other teams. On the other hand, RoboCup encourages us to learn from each other, and this concept is publicly available. Additionally, it’s just a concept, not a full implenentation.
Can I integrate some of their ideas into my work?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi Moritz!
Nice to see you already improving again even though the competition was just a few weeks ago!
I am not an official, but your idea should be fine. It is always good to use/improve the ideas and concepts of others - at least this is what research is all about! But to stay out of trouble, you should always be able to explain what is happening.
