Good afternoon,
I am a member of team Dino Nuggies who will be representing Australia in the OnStage category at the RCJ International competition this coming July. I have 4 questions relating to the latest rules published in draft in Dec. 2025, namely:
Bill of materials (BoM): our robots and props are mainly stock Lego Mindstorms EV3 and Lego Spike Prime (as we are very considerate of sustainability and prefer to reuse rather than produce bespoke items) with additional components purchased separately. The latter can be itemised without much issue such as Wi-Fi dongles, SD cards, non-Lego sensors, … .
All EV3 kits were donated to our school about 5 years ago and all Spike Prime kits were purchased by the school. We have been borrowing some of both since early 2025 in preparation for the Regional competition mid last year, and have been adding to it as we moved to State, National and now International level. For the latter, we are basically doubling the number of robots and props.
Given EV3 kits can only be purchased second hand and Spike Prime kits are being phased out, it is difficult to assign an amount to that component. We could assign the cost of a new brick to robots and programmed props but assigning a cost for the Lego pieces would be very difficult.
Another matter to consider is the use of mats which would be shared among all robots and props. We are considering printing mats, rather than hand painting them as we did for the National competition, which would add to the total cost. Please advise how we should thus proceed with completing the BoM
Submission timeframes: for the 2025 competition in Salvador, materials had to be submitted one to two weeks prior to the competition, according to your newsletter at Newsletter 1 RCJ OnStage Salvador 2025.pdf - Google Drive.
Please advise whether similar timeframes will apply this year
Mentor contact: our mentor is our former school teacher, Mr Caesar Al-Samarrie. Please advise whether his details are on file and, if not, how he can get them updated
Technical description poster: it is mentioned that we should provide it electronically but we were wondering whether it also needs to be printed and, if so, on what medium e.g.: corflute, carton, display banner. Please advise.
Thank you in advance for a prompt reply.
Best regards,
Madeleine.
I’ll ping the OnStage committee for your other queries, but to address the ones I can answer now:
Mentor contact details
Mentor information is provided by your Regional Representative once the 2026 Slot Allocation process is complete. After a slot for your region and requested league is confirmed, your Regional Representative will nominate the selected team and associated mentor. This is likely still a few months away, as many regions have not yet held their 2026 selection events. Please stay in contact with your Regional Representative for future updates, they will receive all relevant communication.
Technical description poster
The general poster requirements are outlined in the General Rules, and yes, there will be a poster presentation during the RoboCup event. Most teams choose to print their poster (usually A1) and bring it with them, although there may be local printing options available at the event.
Best of luck with your preparations, and feel free to reach out if you have any further questions.
Hello @MadeleineVanMello , sorry for late reply and thank you for your concerns.
The submission timeframes is almost the same as the last year. There will be a newsletter ,with submission details and other useful information, published about a month prior to the competition.
Regarding the BoM, please use the current cost of EV3 and other material, as a new purchase cost. There will be a template provided with more information together with other league documentation submission details (1st Newsletter). However, the BoM doesn’t impact the team scoring. It won’t be considered as a part of judging. So, you don’t have to be worried
