Bring Back RCJ Soccer Simulation

Bring Back RCJ Soccer Simulation to the International Competition

I’d like to suggest bringing RCJ Soccer Simulation back to the RoboCupJunior International competition.

Although the league is currently not part of the international event, it remains an excellent platform for teaching artificial intelligence, programming, teamwork, and autonomous robot strategy without requiring expensive hardware. The simulator and educational resources already exist, making it an accessible entry point for many students.

This year, the Iran Open hosted approximately 25 teams in the RCJ Soccer Simulation league. This level of participation demonstrates that the league is still active and that there is genuine interest from students and coaches.

Reintroducing RCJ Soccer Simulation, either as an official competition league or initially as a demonstration event, would provide several benefits:

  • Increase accessibility for teams that cannot afford physical robots.
  • Strengthen programming, AI, and multi-agent system skills.
  • Encourage more students to participate in RoboCupJunior.
  • Provide a stepping stone toward participation in the physical Soccer leagues.
  • Support countries where access to robotics hardware is limited.

I believe RCJ Soccer Simulation still has significant educational value and deserves a place in the international RoboCupJunior competition.

I’d be interested in hearing the thoughts of the Soccer Technical Committee and the community on the possibility of bringing this league back to the international stage.

A solid suggestion – thanks @setato!

Let me ask a counter question right away: if we were to re-introduce it, would you be (or would you happen to know of people) willing to help with its organization? That (the perceived lack of people interested both in the league and particularly its organization) has basically been the reason why it was discontinued.

Thanks!

Hi Marek,

I would definitely be interested in contributing to bringing the league back and helping develop it further. Given my experience with RCJ Soccer Simulation and the community around it, I believe I could take an active role in its development, promotion, and organization.

I also know several people and teams who could contribute to this, particularly in Iran. There are already teams here that I know would be genuinely interested in participating if the league were reintroduced, so I believe there is a good foundation to build on.

With the right group of people, I think we could bring the league back and gradually develop it into a stronger and more active community.
